TREASURED BEGINNINGS

Welcome to Treasured Beginnings Pregnancy & Lactation Co., where we're dedicated to empowering Black parents through education on pregnancy and breastfeeding, with a mission to reduce racial disparities in maternal and infant health. Join us in creating a future where every Black parent feels informed, supported, and empowered on their journey to parenthood.

At the root of what’s happening to black women and their birth outcomes, as well as their disparities with breastfeeding, is an issue about racism and bias.

The Black maternal health crisis is the the American maternal health crisis. There is no delineation. If we can fix this for Black women, we fix it for everybody.

Meet STEPHANA

Stephana is a mother to two young girls. She breastfed her first daughter for 22 months and over two years with her second. She has a deep passion for caring for mothers and babies. She knew from the young age of four that she wanted to care for babies. She also finds fulfillment in educating and empowering women in one of the most joyous moments of their lives.

While Stephana was pregnant with her first daughter in 2015, she noticed how no one looked like her — instructors nor attendees — in the classes she participated in. Consequently, she realized that she wanted to bridge the gap by acknowledging healthcare disparities and being proactive about it.

When Stephana founded Treasured Beginnings Pregnancy & Lactation Co., her mission and purpose was to provide accessible and affordable services during pregnancy and postpartum. She knows that her ministry is to serve others, especially families in marginalized communities.

In the United States, Black women are three times more likely to die during childbirth and have the lowest breastfeeding initiation and continuation rates compared to White women. Stephana has big hopes and dreams of continuing to bring light to the healthcare disparities affecting the Black community, assisting in the fight to eliminate said disparities. She is beginning to fulfill her purpose by providing educational content related to preconception, prenatal, and postpartum health as well as breastfeeding via website and social media platforms.
